Be M-Powered Before the New Year

  “Mind, Meals, Muscle, Motion...in that order.”  That is the prescription for success in fitness from acclaimed lifecoach, weight loss expert, and best selling author Jon Benson, and I believe he is right on!  The problem is, most people trying to change their body and lives have the 4 "M's" completely backwards!  It doesn't work!  If I could give you the best workout plan, or diet plan, or even financial plan, would it change your life?  NO!  We are always seeking for these things it seems, but the bottom line to being successful isn't what you know, it is what you DO.  It is the knowledge that you put into practice!  But doing that can be a serious challenge sometimes!  And that is why, if you want to be successful, you must flex your mind before your muscles!

Knowledge is NOT Power

     The metaphor that "knowledge is power" is a lousy one for your life.  You must apply what you know.  Knowledge intelligently and consistently applied is power!  Knowledge without action is the same as having no knowledge at all!  A wise man once said, "Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly until you learn how to do it well."  Everyone has to start somewhere, but the power kicks in when you start!  Unfortunately, doing this sometimes can be a serious challenge.  Why? Mainly because we already have an established lifestyle and changing habits is difficult.  This is even more true when the changes themselves involve doing some hard things (like saying “no” to ourselves or exercising exertion instead of watching TV)!  

A Fifth “M” = Mentor

     The one who can help us the most when embarking on something new, whether losing excess body fat and getting in the best shape of your life, or something completely different like restoring your finances, or your marriage, is a mentor or counselor (coach).  This is ideally someone who has been where you are and achieved what you would like to, or has helped others to.  When you find someone like this, simply listen to what they have to say and follow in their footsteps.  That is what a mentor or coach is for!  What champion athlete or sports team tries to successfully compete without a coach?  In every profession, those who want to improve and go higher actively seek mentorship and support.  It is necessary.  If not just for the knowledge that can be gained, it is necessary to provide the structure and accountability that is needed to stay focused enough to accomplish the goal.  Making the effort to find a suitable mentor or coach and then making the commitment to be accountable to them is the surest path to success.
