DALTON, Ga.– Though completing two half marathons is no small feat, Jodi
Brown is ready for her next challenge: a triathlon. Brown and her close
friend, Martie Johnston, are enrolled in Bradley Wellness Center’s (BWC)
triathlon training, which leads up to the Splash-N-Dash, an indoor
triathlon to be held Nov. 17.
The Splash-N-Dash will begin at 9 a.m. and include a 15-minute swim, 20-minute bike and 15-minute run. The overall winner will receive a medal and one-year membership to BWC. Top finishers in each age group will receive a medal and a free month of membership. All finishers will receive a stainless steel BWC water bottle.
Johnston completed a triathlon in July and succeeded in convincing Brown that she should train with her for one.
Brown says she really appreciates her swimming and running coaches. “I can’t begin to tell you how much Dawn (Cook) has helped me with swimming and Ricky (Harrison, running coach) is great. I just love that guy.”
Brown says she is excited about the BWC triathlon because she does not consider herself a competitive swimmer, and this race will give her a safe way to try it out without being in open water. She also feels the race will help her avoid getting bored with running.
“The goal is to finish,” Brown says. “How far we go depends on us. It’s up to us how far we push ourselves.”
The Splash-N-Dash is open to members and non-members, ages 12 and up. The first 50 entries will be accepted. The registration fee is $25, and registration forms may be picked up at BWC or found at bradleywell.com. For more information, please call 706-278-WELL (9355).
