DALTON, Ga. –Ten physicians, three nurse practitioners and a physician assistant recently volunteered their time to provide sports physicals to local athletes. More than 30 Bradley Wellness Center (BWC) associates also assisted with the event.

 Students from Whitfield and Murray counties showed up at BWC to get their physicals on May 9.

 The medical professionals provided sports screening physicals, which involved checks on vital signs, height, weight and vision, as well as a review of a comprehensive medical questionnaire. Hundreds of local students receive free sports physicals every year through the program. More than 550 receive the physicals this year.

 Participating medical professionals were: Mitch Frix, MD; Mike Wilson, MD; Jim Lashley, MD; Pam Abernathy, nurse practitioner; David Langlois, physician assistant; David Dinges, MD; Laura Conger, MD; Michel Paré, MD; Kasie Barrett, nurse practitioner; Rod Lewis, nurse practitioner; Eric Calfee, MD; Craig Tidwell, MD; Ezad Ahmad, MD; Gary Olson, MD; Donna Bell, echo tech; and Tammy Lawhorn, echo tech.

 Hamilton Sports Medicine, a program provided by Hamilton Medical Center, coordinated the event with the high schools. Hamilton Sports Medicine certified athletic trainers who participated in the event included: Joe Ogden, Crystal Clark, Stephanie Rynas, Kadaysha Pickens, Tony Mathis, Stephanie Wise, Ryan Bonanno and Corey Stansifer.

 Hamilton Sports Medicine provides athletic trainers for outreach athletic assistance at local high schools in Whitfield, Murray and Gordon counties. As part of the program, an athletic trainer is on-sight at local high school, professional and community sports events. The Sports Medicine staff includes certified athletic trainers who are trained in care and prevention of athletic injuries.
